MEET THE FOUNDER, MAURA

I founded Buoy Coast to capture the memories my family makes on Peaks Island every summer, and share them with people throughout the year.
— Maura Hurley Chapey

Maura Hurley Chapey started spending summers on Peaks Island at the age of five with her parents and four siblings. The salty air and warm sun of New England’s rocky shores helped create memories she would carry with her throughout the year. Coastal living became a way of life for Maura: after having children of their own, she and her husband Mike decided to purchase a cottage on Peaks and continue to visit every summer.

In 2003, Maura opened Take a Peak, a seasonal Peaks Island gift shop carrying a variety of New England-inspired goods. While stocking the shop with coastal products, Maura discovered founder-led brands that showcased their connections to New England. She realized that she too had a story to tell, and, putting to use her earlier professional experience in merchandising with companies like Liz Claiborne and Calvin Klein and her lifetime of New England summers, she founded Buoy Coast to share that story with the world.
