3 Essential Spots to Eat in Portland this Spring

As we enter mud season in Maine and the winter snow and ice begins to melt away, it’s easy to feel the welcomed warmer temps and longer days on the horizon. Spring in Maine brings an energizing and renewing spirit to Vacationland as the winter cabin fever begins to lift for Mainers across the Pine Tree State. Portland’s cobblestone streets will once again begin to fill with tourists from away looking to experience the destination dining scene we have come to be known for. We are certainly excited for this changing of the season and can’t wait to experience some of our Portland area favorites again, alongside both tourists and locals alike, as they return from winter break for another busy summer season.

Spring in Maine means food truck season is back in action! Make your way over to Portland’s Eastern Prom with its stunning ocean views and you’re sure to catch an award-winning lineup of trucks on any given day. Keep an eye out for some of our favorites including Vy Banh Mi, for lemongrass beef Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and Maine Maple Creemee Co, for maple flavored soft serve ice cream.
For those craving a Maine lobster roll, head over to Portland Head Lighthouse for coastline views that can’t be beat and grab a roll from our favorite Bite into Maine food truck. Grab some potato salad and a whoopie pie too, and enjoy a Maine picnic lunch at Fort Williams Park.

Il Leone is back for Season 2 later this Spring! Catch a ferry from Portland’s Casco Bay Ferry Lines terminal on Commercial St. and enjoy the lovely 15-minute ocean journey to this Casco Bay gem. Make your way to the island’s Lions Club, a short 5 minute walk from the ferry landing, where you’ll find this outdoor pizzeria serving Neapolitan style pizzas from their wood fired oven. Il Leone is BYOB and pet friendly too!

This Portland neighborhood staple is under new ownership this season. We’re excited to check out the expanded selection of sake alongside our sushi favorites. Yosaku’s outdoor patio space is our favorite in the city complete with lush landscaping and a water fountain feature that is sure to please. Nothing says Spring like an outdoor lunch date on the patio!
In addition to our Portland area favorites, we are also looking forward to checking out Tops’l Farm in the midcoast region this Spring. We’ll be dining at their Sugar Shack Supper, a celebration of both maple and mud seasons in Maine. Keep an eye out for other upcoming seasonal Supper club experiences at Tops’l Farm this summer and fall.
