5 Cozy Late Winter New England Getaways

Although we're looking forward to longer days and warmer temperatures, we still know winter is far from over here on the East Coast. Why not make the most of it? New England has no shortage of picturesque ski towns, intimate cabin hideaways, and charming coastal escapes. Read on for 5 cozy late winter New England getaways that are perfect for your next long weekend excursion!

Burlington, Vermont

Burlington is beautiful year-round, but we think this town truly shines in the colder months! Nestled between Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains, Burlington is the perfect winter getaway for anyone who loves the outdoors. From alpine skiing to snowmobiling and ice climbing, this picturesque Vermont town is a great place to enjoy the last of the snowy season before spring's first thaw.  After hitting the slopes, head into downtown Burlington to enjoy one of the town's many restaurants and breweries. And don't forget to stroll down Main Street and College Street to browse Burlington's cute gift shops!

Bethel, Maine

A ski town known for it's proximity to Sunday River, Bethel has no shortage of AirBNBs and inns for a cozy long winter weekend. This small town is big on charm, and it's proximity to Portland - just an hour and a half away - makes it the perfect destination for a cold weather escape. Our Bethel weekend itinerary includes cross country skiing at Carter's, which features miles of groomed trails along the scenic Androscoggin River, topped off with a burger and beer from Butcher Burger, a local favorite!

Newport, Rhode Island

Sailing, strolls on the Cliff Walk, lobster rolls, and days spent lounging at Easton's Beach might be what comes to mind when someone mentions Newport. However, we think this Rhode Island town is just as pretty in the winter, and far less crowded. During February and March, hotels that get pricey during the warmer months - Forty 1 North, The Mill Street Inn, or the Hotel Viking, to name a few - are affordable, even on the weekends. Book a room and spend a morning enjoying brunch at Stoneacre Brasserie before heading to tour the Newport Mansions with their beautiful grounds lightly dusted with snow. A stop at the Bodhi Spa and Newport Vineyards are also in order before packing up and heading home!

Beacon Hill New England Winter Getaway

The White Mountains, New Hampshire

Between the powder covered mountain tops, beautiful iced over waterfalls, and quaint towns, the White Mountains are an ideal winter getaway - even if you don't ski. Book a stay in Bretton Woods, Lincoln, or Jackson, and enjoy the sights. We recommend taking a drive along the Kancamagus Highway for the breathtaking views, enjoying a winter hike at Franconia Notch State Park, or hitting the trails at the Bretton Woods Nordic Center. In between activities, there is no shortage of downtown streets featuring block after block of cozy pubs for a pint and a bite to eat.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston might be an obvious choice for a winter weekend, but we couldn't resist including it on this list - between the delicious food, luxe hotels, and street after street of picturesque townhouses, this New England city remains a favorite for a short stay. Our winter recommendations include a stroll in the beautiful Beacon Hill neighborhood, shopping at the Prudential Center, and a cozy Italian dinner in the North End.
